Both the Rush and Goanna’s were looking for redemption heading into the weekend. The Goanna’s just fell short of defeating the Sydney Sirens, whilst the Rush needed to regroup after two tough losses against the defending champs Melbourne Ice.
Emma Gray opened the account for Brisbane with less than five to go. Both teams managing to stay out of the box for the entire first period. Emma Gray however managed to change that as she opened the penalty count for her team early in the second period. But the Goanna’s managed to kill off the penalty and shift the momentum responding minutes later with a second, thanks to the stick of Alexandra MacDonald.
The Rush had a couple more PP opportunities but couldn’t capatilise. Tina Girdler continued her strong performance for the Rush closing the door on the Goanna’s but it wasn’t enough as her team fell 2-0 to finish the game. Also shutting the door was Ashleigh Brown who walked away with 15 saves and the shutout.
Sunday featured a scoreless first period, before the Goannas ran away with the game. The Goannas peppered the Rush net with 41 shots hitting the back of the net 8 times. Harris managed to spoil Perry’s shutout at the start of the third period and close the gap to 4-1 but it was not enough to give her team a spark as the game closed 8-1. It was scoring by committee by the Goanna’s as Giblin, Santilli and Badgley contributed two goals each.
