Both battling for second place in the standings, the Brisbane Goannas had an absolute thrilling final home series against the Melbourne Ice this weekend at the Boondall Ice World. The Goannas entered the weekend looking for redemption after their 6-2 loss last week against the Sydney Sirens, whilst Ice had a victorious game against Adelaide Rush defeating them 10-1.

On Saturday night both teams showed great energy finishing the third period with a 4-4 score. Christina Badgley scored early for the Goannas but after 27 seconds, Shona Powell answered immediately tying it for Ice. Melbourne was up 4-3 in the third period and with 40 seconds left on the clock, Brisbane asssistant captain Rosanna Routledge puts the puck in net giving the Goannas another chance as they head into a shootout. Brisbane continued to try harder but Melbourne was able to end the shootout with a 5-4 victory to finish off the night.

Despite losing the first game against Melbourne Ice who currently sits third place in the standings, Goannas were able to hold a 3-0 score before Ice gets two goals in the last period. Although Melbourne continued to skate hard and set up great plays, Brisbane kept up their defense and ended their final home game with a 3-2 win

The Goannas now remain in second place on the table leading into the finals which will be held on the 11th and 12th of March. Round 8 finishes off next weekend with a game against the undefeated Sydney Sirens and the Adelaide Rush.
