16 year old Aussie making his
mark in the Great White North
Beau Taylor began playing ice hockey
in 2004, at the age of 13. In his first season, Beau made the
New South Wales State team where he became the leading scorer
at the peewee National Championships. Like many Australian kids,
Taylor developed his skills playing in-line hockey where he
represented the State and played for Australia.
“Beau’s
father was one of the best players ever to come to Australia”,
said former referee Rick Williams. Jeff Taylor was a scoring machine
for the famous Warringah Bombers, in the early 80’s”,
said Williams.
Last year, Beau attended the pursuit of
excellence program in Kelowna BC, which comprised of players from
all over Canada, Europe & the USA. This past season, the young
Aussie played AAA midget hockey in Manitoba for the Interlake Lightning
and made the Manitoba East- West all-star game.
As at the NHL All-Star Game weekend, the
league did a Skills Competition, which saw the fast skating Taylor
finish runner-up. Recently, Beau returned home and is currently playing
for the Central Coast Rhinos, in the AIHL. The speedster had a successful
debut into the league by scoring a goal in his first game and was
also named joint player of the week in the AIHL.
Next year, the Gosford native will again
attend the “Western Hockey League” Medicine Hat Tigers
rookie camp. Following this, Beau plans to stay in Medicine Hat and
play AAA midget there.
