The 2003 Championships
The Australian National
Mens team competed in the 2003 IIHF World Championship Div II, Group
A held in Seoul Korea from 5 April to 12 April 2003, finishing fourth.
The Mens Senior
Team lost to Spain 4-3 in their final game of the Championships.
The game decided the bronze medal position. The Australian team
was ahead 3 to 2 when Spain tied the game with 50 seconds left in
the game. Australia then had to pull the goaltender, as Spain were
leading in goals for & against, in an attempt to win the game
outright. Chris Leetham, Australian goalie, was outstanding, providing
the team every opportunity to win the game. For

After giving
South Africa a 2 to nothing lead in the first period Australia dominated
the next two periods to come from behind to post a hard fought and
well earned 5 - 3 win. Once again our defence stood up to the test
through the leadership by Tyler Lovering, Captain for the game,
in the absence of injured Glen Foll.
Anthony "willo"
Wilson , Mark Rummukainen and Dan George continually fed the puck
to our forwards.
Man of the match
for Australia was Greg Oddy who scored twice to put Australia into
the game.
With all players
contributing Australia should have lead by more but could not finish
off in front of net. Today is a rest day with Australia meeting
Spain tomorrow for the Bronze medal.

Tuesday
8th April Australia beat Mexico 11 - 0 with Greg Oddy and Jarkko
Turtiainen leading the way with 3 goals apiece. Solid defence lead
by Tyler Lovering and Anthony Wilson kept pressure on the Mexican
forwards at all times while Alan Becken had his first ever international
full game shutout. Although the team has lost to Yugoslavia and
Korea they have played well against very strong opposition .
We are looking
forward to todays game against South Africa .
Our only disappointment
at this stage is an injury last night to our Captain Glen Foll.
His previous injury was showing great progress. He will miss the
next game against South Africa and his leadership on the ice for
this game will be missed. We remain hopeful Glen will recover in
time to lead the team against Spain which is looming as the Bronze
medal game of the Championships.
