Australia Lose to Hungary for Bronze Medal

IHA National Inline Team suffered their second disappointing loss going down to Hungary 6 - 5 in Passau, Germany. The loss gave Hungary the Bronze after both Australia and Hungary were knocked out of the Gold Medal game the previous day.

Hungary scored 30 seconds into the opening frame. Australia tied the game minutes later when Madden scored on a pass from Casaceli. Hungary went ahead 2 - 1 minutes later and Australia again tied the game on a goal from Jones to end the period 2 - 2.

The second period remained scoreless as Australia were unable to capitalise on Hungary's three and only penalties for the period.

McClauchlan put Australia up 3 - 2 early in the third. Hungary replied to tie it up and scored two unanswered goals to take a 5 - 3 lead.

Australia narrowed the gap 5 - 4 with Martin scoring an early goal in the fourth.Midway through the period Hungary extended the lead 6 - 4 taking advantage of a slashing penalty to Australia. Minutes later Gunn gave Australia some reprieve with a goal and brining within one to tie the game. Neither team were able to capitalise in the final minutes ending the game 6 - 5 in Hungary's favour.

Shots on goal by Australia 37. Muir for Australia faced 36 shots.

In the Gold Medal game New Zealand lost to Brazil 5 -4 in overtime. Australia finished the Championship in 4th place behind Brazil with Gold, New Zealand with Silver, Hungary with Bronze.

Australia Go Down to New Zealand at World Inline Championships

After having a 13 - 2 win against New Zealand in the preliminary round, New Zealand triumphed when it counted, knocking out Australia from the Gold Medal game with a 7 - 3 win at the IIHF World Inline Championships.

Australia struck first when just after 5 seconds into the game Ollie Rozdarz put Australia on the board. Five minutes later New Zealand took advantage of an Australian penalty to Australia to tie the game.

In the second New Zealand scored their second goal on a power play. The period remained scoreless with New Zealand taking a 2 - 1 lead.

In the third, Madden for Australia tied the game with a power play goal and a 2 - 2 score. Towards the end of the period, McLauchlan took a penalty for tripping giving New Zealand a man advantage and who scored to take the lead 3 - 2.

The fourth and final frame saw a penalty filled contest with New Zealand scoring 4 goals to Australia's one. All but one were power play goals. New Zealand pumped in three unanswered goals to increase their lead to 6 - 2 before Casaceli notched Australia's third. New Zealand countered with their 7th to end the game 7 - 3 and advancement to the Gold Medal game against Brazil.

Muir for Australia faced 44 shots while Australia only managed 28 on New Zealand.

Australia now face Hungary for the Bronze.

Australia to the Medal Round At The World Inline Championships

Victorian, Sean Jones, scored two goals to move IHA's National Inline Team to the medal round of Groups C & D with a 5 - 3 win over Namibia.

Namibia jumped out in front with two quick power play goals. Minutes later, Victorian Danny Gunn notched one for the Aussies. The remainder of the period was a close checking match and remained scoreless to complete the period 2 - 1 in favour of Namibia.

A minute and a half into the second period, New South Waler, Mike Casaceli, replied for Australia to tie the game. Namibia scored seconds later taking the lead 3 - 2. Minutes later, Victorian, Lee McLauchlan tied the game. The teams remained scoreless for the rest of the period. Only one penalty was recorded for the period.

Three minutes into the 3rd period Jones gave Australia a 4 - 3 lead. Both teams remained scoreless and battled on with neither teams taking any penalties.

In the 4th and final frame, it was Jones again, taking advantage of the only penalty in the period to score a power play goal giving the Aussies a final 5 - 3 score.

Shots on goal by Australia was 30. Muir for Australia faced 29.

Australia's Tasman friends, New Zealand, created a championship upset taking out 2nd place Japan 4 - 3. Hungary upset the bottom eight favourite Great Britain also with a score of 4 - 3.

The upsets, and Australia and New Zealand wins, have Australia playing New Zealand to determine who will advance to the Gold Medal game.

Australia Moves To 2nd Place At Inline World Championships

Australia met arch rivals New Zealand in their preliminary round of the IIHF World Inline Championships in Landshut, Germany, completing the round with a 13 - 2 win. This places Australia in second place in Group D with two wins and one loss finishing behind Brazil who finished in first place.

Ollie Rozdarz is 4th in overall points with 5 goals and 3 assists. Casacelli and Fritchley also join Rozdarz in the top 10 overall. Muir and Collins have shared the goaltending duties.

Australia now move to the main arena in Passau to take on Namibia who finished 3rd in their division. The contest is for a spot in the final four teams and entry to the medal round. A win will see the Aussies up against Great Britain or Japan who finished 1st and 2nd respectively.

Australia Loses Thriller Against Brazil

Playing a man short for 7 minutes in the 2nd period , Australia went down to Brazil 6 - 5 in their first game at the IIHF World Inline Championships in , Landshut, Germany. Australia fought back from a 5 - 2 deficit outshooting Brazil 35 - 31, but came up short at the buzzer. Australia's Madden and Rozdarz accounted for two goals each.


Australia Defeats Hungary

In a fast skating game, Australia defeated Hungary 8 - 5 to record their first win at the IIHF World Inline Championships in Landshut, Germany. Jordie Gavin notched a hat-trick with Ollie Rozdarz getting one goal and two assists. Jacob Collins was outstanding in the net for the Aussies and was a major factor in the win.

IHA 2007 National Inline Team Preparing for IIHF Inline World Championships


IHA's National Inline Team have commenced training sessions and a series of exhibition games in preparation for the IIHF 2007 World Inline Championships in Munich, Germany.

In their first exhibition game, Australia recorded a 10 - 2 win over a local Junior Inline Team. In their second exhibition match against Landsut, Germany, the team recorded a convincing win of 11 - 2.

The team has two more days of training before meeting Brazil in their first Championship game on Sunday the 27th May 2007. The Championship, touted to be the top World Championship for Inline Hockey, kicks off on Saturday the 26th May with one single game between Group A power house teams Team Czech Republic and host Team Germany. All 16 teams take to the floor on Sunday in two inline stadiums.

Australia is in one of one of four groups, of four teams each, participating in the Championship. In addition to Brazil, Australia will meet Hungary and New Zealand in their group before playing cross-over games with the other groups.

IHA National Inline Team Announces Team Line-Up For IIHF 2007 World Inline Championships

The IHA 2007 Inline Team have completed their selection of players for participation at the IIHF 2007 World Inline Championships to be held in Passau and Lanshutt Germany from the 26th May – 2nd June 2007.

The team will depart for Germany on the 19th May for a 5 day camp in Lanshutt prior to the Championship, returning to Australia on the 5th June.

Rated as the World's premier inline championship comprising of 16 top ice hockey and inline countries, a number of countries have pro ice hockey players in their line-up resulting in the highest level of competition in the world. Australia is seeded in the bottom eight teams and are looking forward to improve their ranking.

Previous championships has seen Australia losing to their rivals in overtime, and in 2006, three times in succession with one game in double overtime. Japan has been victorious over Australia on a number of previous encounters which Australia is keen to change in 2007.
