Memoirs from our Gold Medal Winning Coach

With the Stanley Cup in its final stage, former NHL player and Australian National Senior Coach “Steve McKenna” has had some time to reflect on the incredible journey and challenges the Roo’s face. “I went into our Newcastle training camp with the absolute intention of winning; I just didn't know yet who would be the players to do it. The try-outs made it clear who really wanted to represent their country. There were players that came in and took spots away from the other guys. They wanted to put on the Green and Gold and skate for their country. The way the tournament played-out left no doubt that we have a great hockey country. The gold medal gave the whole organisation the inspiration we need going into Lithuania. We know that Lithuania will hold lots of challenges for us on the ice but we are going to put twenty three Australians on the ice that will do their country proud. We will go into Lithuania with the same attitude and expect nothing but the best from our team. There is already buzz around the rinks about next year which is a great sign”.
