Australian 2008 Selects Women's Team in Sweden

The Australian 2008 Selects Women's Team has recently completed an intensive camp in Sweden run by the Swedish Women's National Team and their coach, Peter Elander.

After a stop over in Copenhagen to get rid of jetlag and see the sights, the girls were subjected to a week of intense on and off ice hockey drills and training. Each evening the Selects played a squad of girls made up of different countries that were represented at the Swedish camp. The summer weather was beautiful, and the girls filled up on local fare such as Swedish meatballs.

The daily activities included three on-ice sessions, including off-ice sessions such as football and kick boxing. The on-ice sessions were instructed by elite athletes including an NHL player from the Dallas Stars who had attended the camp as a teenager. Scouts from USA colleges were also in attendance.

Team Manager, Deliah Onorato, and Team Coaches Tamra Jones and John Harvey, could not say enough positive things about the players' attitudes and behaviour. The European coaches were also pleasantly surprised by the girl’s ability and determination. The players' new found skills will be valuable for the upcoming Australian Women’s Ice Hockey 2008/2009 Showcase Series.
