IHA
Referees Prepare for AIHL 2006 Season
The IHA Referees commenced preparations
for the AIHL's 2006 season through their attendance at
the IHA's 2006 AIHL Referees Seminar. IHA Referee-in-Chief,
Allan Wishewan put together a comprehensive agenda complete
with guest speakers from the Australian Rugby League and
New South Wales Sports Commission.
The
seminar was designed to review the various rule changes
for the upcoming season and establish consistency in rule
application. The referees were also put through an exhaustive
on-ice skills skating testing program and team building
exercise.
The League is shaping up to be played at an even higher
level than in previous years. A large contingent of 2005
imports are returning and the majority of teams have employed
overseas coaches. The first game is scheduled for Sunday
the 08th April 2006 when the Central Coast Rhinos host
the visiting Canberra Knights.
Allan
Wishewan and Chris Mason Attend ASC Officiating - Mentorship
Induction Workshop

IHA "Official of the Year" for 2005, Chris Mason
attended the Australian Sports Commission's (ASC) Officiating-Mentorship

of potential high performance officials, and to provide
a pathway to 'fast-track' the official within elite level
sport. As one of IHA's top on-ice officials, Chris Mason
was awarded an ASC grant for the IHA's 2006 season.
The program also provides officials with
an intense learning program. The structure of the program
is based around the official undertaking three key elements:
-
Hands-on officiating under the guidance of an experienced
mentor;
-
Upgrading
(or updating) their officiating accreditation; and
-
Professional development activities (eg. observation
of other officials, attendance at seminars/conferences,
