Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) and the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League (AWIHL) are pleased to announce the AWIHL Finals weekend, March 18th and 19th at O’Brien Icehouse, Docklands, Victoria.
The 2023 season has seen the best players in the country fight for supremacy in one of the world’s premier ice hockey competitions. The Final Series will see four teams compete over the weekend, with the Grand Final being played on Sunday 19th March.
The AWIHL Finals series is supported by the Victorian Government.
Ice Hockey Australia and the AWIHL would like to thank their valued partners O’Brien Icehouse, SportsLink Travel and Cluch TV.
AWIHL Commissioner, Michaela Fellowes, said “We are back after missing the past two seasons; the teams are ready to contest for the Joan McKowen Memorial Trophy, it’s an exciting time for women’s ice hockey here in Australia”.
IHA’s General Manager, Adam Woolnough, said “Our women’s game is going from strength to strength, evidenced by the recent result of our World Women U18 National Team that won Gold in Division II at World Championship in the UK, and the National Women Team that won Silver in Division II at their World Championships in South Africa.
The women’s game has an opportunity to inspire the next generation of players and future stars as we target the Winter Olympics.
The journey starts domestically in Australia, we have a great competition to nurture the women’s game. We can’t wait to see the finals series play out to a full stadium of supporters at O’Brien Icehouse”.
