Adelaide Rush hosted the Melbourne Ice for their Home Opening Weekend. It was the franchises first display in their new Rush Uniform.
Melbourne Ice were determined from the drop of the puck to spoil their parade and barraged the Rush net with 21 shots in the opening period. Rush netminder Joanna Phillis managed to weather the storm as her team left the period down 1-0. Vander Der Wolf added to the lead with a goal early in the second before the Rush kicked into gear halving the lead five minutes later thanks to Kelly Harris.
But that was as close as the Rush would get as the goal seemed to awake a sleeping giant. The Ice equalled their first period efforts with another 22 shots on net. This time they managed to break a solid Phillis and tally five unanswered goals in the third. Christina Julien nabbed a hat trick in the 7-1 affair.
Melbourne took their third period attack from the Home Opener right into the Sunday, racing off to a 10-0 lead after two periods of play. The whole team was on fire as five individual players scored in the first. The Ice finally slowed down finishing with a 13-0 performance. Van Der Wolf managed to pull of a hat trick as Padjen, Davis-Tope and Aston walked away with a pair each.
