The Liverpool Catholic Club (LCC) Saints have been named the recipient of the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Equipment Pack — a prestigious and impactful donation that will go a long way in growing the game in Liverpool and the surrounding communities.
In a truly special moment for the club, NHL star and Australian ice hockey icon Nathan Walker joined the celebration, inspiring the next generation of players with his journey from local rinks to the world’s biggest hockey stage.
The announcement and equipment presentation were made in the presence of key figures in Australian ice hockey, including Tim Kitching (President of Ice Hockey NSW), Andrew Williams (President of the LCC Saints), Heather Taylor (Vice-President of the LCC Saints), and Adam Woolnough (General Manager of Ice Hockey Australia). The event marked not only the arrival of new 35 equipment packs but also a celebration of community spirit, opportunity, and the bright future of the sport in the region.
The NHLPA Goals & Dreams program, founded by the National Hockey League Players’ Association, is the largest grassroots hockey assistance program in the world. It aims to remove financial barriers and provide vital equipment to support youth involvement in hockey, and its impact has now reached one of Australia's most passionate and fast-growing clubs. Originally donated at the NHL Global Series, Melbourne, 2023, unfortunately had been delayed for unforeseen circumstances but has now arrived to the excitement of many.
“This is an absolutely wonderful day for the LCC Saints,” said Andrew Williams. “We are so grateful to the NHLPA and Ice Hockey Australia for this opportunity. The equipment will allow us to welcome more young people to our club who otherwise may not have had the chance to play.”
Nathan Walker, whose presence added excitement and inspiration to the day, took time to engage with junior players, share stories of his career, and offer words of encouragement.
The donation comes at a pivotal time for the LCC Saints, who have been actively growing their junior ranks and delivering inclusive programs that reflect the diversity and energy of the local community.
“This is what growing the game looks like,” said Adam Woolnough. “Supporting grassroots organisations like LCC ensures that every child — no matter their background — has the opportunity to step onto the ice, learn the game, and be part of something special.”
With renewed energy and the vital resources provided by the NHLPA Goals & Dreams Equipment Pack, the LCC Saints are now more equipped than ever to expand their programs and welcome new participants from Liverpool and beyond. This generous gift reinforces the growing momentum of ice hockey in Australia and highlights the critical role community clubs play in the development of the sport.
Congratulations to the LCC Saints — a club truly deserving of this incredible opportunity. The future is bright for ice hockey in Western Sydney!
