Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Kvisle as Head Coach of the U20 Men’s National Team for the 2026 and 2027 international seasons.
Kvisle, who has been the long-time assistant coach under David Ruck, is the 2024 AIHL Coach of the Year and Head Coach of the 2025 Youth Pan-Pacific Series, where Australia will face off against New Zealand and Hong Kong, China. Over the years, Kvisle has played a key role in supporting player development and strengthening the national team’s pathways, bringing consistency and dedication to the junior program.
Now stepping into the Head Coach role, Kvisle brings with him valuable experience, a fresh vision, and a deep passion for advancing Australian hockey on the world stage.
"I am honoured to accept the role of Head Coach for the National Junior Team. Over the past few years I have had the privilege of working closely alongside David Ruck, learning a great deal from his leadership and commitment to the program. I am excited to build on that foundation, while also bringing my own vision and energy to continue moving the team forward."
Kvisle emphasised the significance of the opportunity not only for himself but also for the future of the sport in Australia:
"Being appointed Head Coach of the National Junior Team is a proud moment in my coaching journey. I am excited to lead the next generation of players with passion, discipline, and a strong belief in what Australian hockey can achieve on the international stage. This role is about more than just competing, it’s about building a culture of excellence, resilience, and the pride that comes with the jersey that will carry our athletes forward for years to come."
IHA General Manager, Adam Woolnough, welcomed the appointment and praised Kvisle’s dedication:
“Jason has been an important part of the national team program for many years, and his progression to Head Coach is a natural next step. He brings both continuity and a new energy that will benefit our junior athletes as they take on the challenges of international competition. We are confident Jason will inspire the next generation of Australian players and continue to strengthen our pathway to the senior national team.”
Ice Hockey Australia would also like to extend its sincere thanks to David Ruck for his outstanding contribution to the U20 program, where his leadership, expertise, and commitment have set a strong foundation for the team’s future success.
Ice Hockey Australia congratulates Jason Kvisle on his appointment and looks forward to supporting him in leading the U20 Men’s National Team into an exciting new era.
