Team Announcement: Australia Names Two Teams for Youth Pan-Pacific Ice Hockey Series
Published Wed 30 Jul 2025
Ice Hockey Australia is proud to announce the selection of two national teams that will represent Australia in the inaugural Youth Pan-Pacific Series, to be held at IceHQ in Melbourne from October 10–13, 2025.
Following outstanding performances at the National Championships in July, a total of 34 of the country’s top young athletes—born in 2010 and 2011—have been chosen to compete against their counterparts from New Zealand and Hong Kong, China, in what promises to be a thrilling and high-calibre international event.
Each team comprises 15 skaters and 2 goaltenders and represents a diverse cross-section of Australia’s ice hockey talent, drawn from all corners of the country. The selection reflects Ice Hockey Australia’s ongoing commitment to national development, inclusivity, and the identification of future high-performance athletes.
Team Green Head Coach, Jason Kvisle - "I'm honoured to be part of this inaugural Youth Pan-Pacific Series. Having had the recent opportunity to scout players at the recent DeFris National Championships, it is clear the level of talent coming through is exceptional. To now help guide these athletes and share insights into the National team is a privilege".
Team Gold Head Coach - Sami Mantere - "I think this program is a game changer for Australian Naitonal teams. We're all so excited to help these 14 and 15 year olds by showing them what it takes and hopefully what it means to represent your country. But I also want to remind players who did'nt quite make the teams this year that this is only the begining. You'll have plenty of opportunities in years to come to show your qualities".
Ice Hockey Australia congratulates all selected players, their families, and their clubs. This is a major milestone in their development and a fantastic opportunity to compete at an international level while proudly representing their country.
The Youth Pan-Pacific Series not only showcases top-tier competition but also supports the broader development of coaches, officials, and support staff. The inclusion of New Zealand and Hong Kong, China, reflects the growing momentum behind youth hockey in the region, and the Series will culminate with a full day of finals on Monday, October 13.
IHA General Manager, Adam Woolnough - "The naming of these two Australian teams is a proud moment for our sport. These young athletes represent the future of Australian ice hockey, and the Youth Pan-Pacific Series provides them with an invaluable platform for growth and international experience."
