Trans-Tasman Women’s Ice Hockey Series Announcement

Ice Hockey Australia and the New Zealand Ice Hockey Federation are excited to announce a three game ice hockey series between both countries' national senior women’s teams, the Aussie Flyers and Ice Fernz.

Australia’s Aussie Flyers and New Zealand’s Ice Fernz are no strangers to playing against each other, with both teams having been in the same IIHF World Championship division for the last two competitions. As demand for women’s ice hockey continues to grow in both countries, both countries felt there was a need for more international competition.

Ice Hockey Australia President, Ryan O’Handley added "I am thrilled to be announcing this series with our friends from New Zealand.  We have tremendous momentum behind women's ice hockey right now and the skill and level of play in the AWIHL continues to increase.  It will be an amazing for our national women's team and our fans".

NZIHF President Andy Mills said “this is an exciting time for ice hockey. Our domestic women’s league has been growing in popularity, so the time is right to showcase the spectacle of our national women’s team against our closest rivals Australia.”

The teams will compete in the three game series, with the location and date for the contest yet to be confirmed - both national federations are hard at work planning the series and more information will be announced soon.
