Ice Hockey Australia Financial Update
Melbourne, Australia –Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) has recently met with their member associations to share insights on the current and previous years financial positioning of the organisation.
A number of governance initiatives were shared and agreed as IHA continue on the pathway forward. Multiple detailed sessions have been held with it’s member associations in addition to other key stakeholders including the Australian Sports Commission.
The current restated loss for FY25 has been drafted as $377k. The meetings over recent weeks with our key stakeholders included discussion on the detail of where these impacts came from over key pillars of grant recognition, expenses and membership income realisation. A cost recovery model strategy and future recovery plans were discussed. A dramatic reduction in aged debtors has also been a focus with an outcome of over a 100% improvement.
The process for restating losses, as well as future strategies to track both budget and debtors have been identified. The FY 26 prediction sits at a loss $150 - $200k, with many items committed in the front half of the year. A number of strategies have been deployed to pull back this position.
Consultation with the Australian Sports Commission and professional auditors has highlighted that two thirds of NSO’s reported a financial loss last year. Restating losses through appropriate auditing steps is not uncommon as a result of the lean nature of NSOs and a plan is in place to formally state and amend the lodging with ASIC in June 2026. No further reporting to ASIC or other authority has been identified for the immediate term. Suggestion of impropriety has been unfounded; but rather a lack of effective fiscal management and over investment in initiatives the main contributors.
Ice Hockey Australia invest in a number of important areas in order to support and grow the sport. A summary of where major funding is allocated for the FY26 year, including to support our Women’s league (AWIHL), Youth and growth initiatives, coaching and development activities as well as administratively to run the company will be broadly circulated in the coming weeks.
Our focus now is on building confidence, stabilising our finances, and ensuring that Ice Hockey Australia continues to thrive for the benefit of our sporting community.
