IHA Street Hockey - No Ice. No Contact. All Action
The IHA Street Hockey Program is played on any flat surface in regular shoes with a stick, a ball and portable nets, it teaches the fundamentals of hockey through modified, non-contact games mapped to the National Physical Education Curriculum. No rink. No skating. No protective equipment required.
That design makes it a physical literacy program first and a hockey program second. With the rules modified and the contact removed, every student can take part safely regardless of size, ability or sporting background. Sessions run within the school curriculum, delivered by an accredited PE teacher or an accredited NHL Street Hockey coach and the program is listed with Sporting Schools; federally endorsed, Australian Sports Commission approved, and partially subsidised.
Since joining Sporting Schools, the program has reached more than 7,000 students across the nation in just over three school terms, the majority picking up a hockey stick for the very first time.
