Ice Hockey Australia (IHA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Adam Woolnough as its new General Manager (GM).

Adam comes to IHA from the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), where he has held management roles for the past four years and was part of the AIS Senior Leadership Team. Adam also worked with the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) in high-performance and professional development roles.

Before his involvement with the AIS and QAS, Adam was an elite athlete in the National Rugby League (NRL) competition, playing nine seasons for the Newcastle Knights, Penrith Panthers, and Melbourne Storm.

“I’m eager to get to know our members and member associations across the country and work at building those relationships, partnerships, and connections,” Adam said.

“I’m also keen to work with other key high-performance stakeholders – whether that is the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), Olympic Winter Institute of Australia (OWIA), Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), and Sport Australia – and help them recognise the opportunity ice hockey presents.

“There are some talented athletes in our sport. I’d like to see them remain involved and grow the sport. This is an exciting opportunity; the [IHA] Board has set the goal of Olympic participation by 2030. We need to start that journey now.”

IHA President Dr Ryan O’Handley said, “He [Adam] comes from professional sport, he also comes from AIS, so he brings a depth of understanding of sport and where we aspire to take our sport. We want to take ice hockey to become a more major sport in Australia, and we have someone who understands that.”

Adam Woolnough will officially start as IHA General Manager on October 3, and we are excited to welcome him to our ice hockey community.
